Job Description:

The Development Director is responsible for leading and managing the fund-raising program and development-related activities of the Home. The Development Director collaborates primarily with the Collecting Little Sister but also with the Mother Superior/Administrator, and all committees involved in fund-raising activities. Primary responsibilities and relationships with other people in the Home are outlined below.

MISSION The Development Director will carry out duties in keeping with the mission of Little Sisters of the Poor, namely the caring for the aged poor with love, respect and dignity. "Making the elderly happy, that is what counts" was a saying of the Little Sisters of the Poor foundress Saint Jeanne Jugan. Central to this philosophy is the promotion of a holistic approach for our Residents in an atmosphere of kindness and respect in creating a family spirit. JOB STANDARDS:

  • Five years of full time, progressively responsible fundraising experience (or related field) including non-profit organizations, major gifts, and planned giving.
  • Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to plan and execute a fund drive.
  • Leadership qualities including but not limited to professional conduct, analytical skills and the capacity to embrace the mission with the enthusiasm to promote it.
  • Strong communication skills including ability to write creatively and speak persuasively about the mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor of (name of Home).
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, to travel, and to have a valid driver's license. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
    • Direct the organization and management of a comprehensive Development Program; analyze outcomes and implement new strategies to assure a dynamic program.
    • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and close private and major gift prospects (individuals, corporations and foundations). Maintain an active pool of prospects in this category.
    • Manage the development program by delegating responsibilities within the department. When applicable hire, orientate and supervise the Assistant Director of Development and other ancillary personnel for the department.
    • Integrate the Development Program into the life of the Home, showing a genuine interest in the Residents' happiness and appreciation for the family spirit.
    • Review and utilize resources including volunteers, staff, publications, and the internet to heighten public awareness and support for the mission.
    • Plan and administer an annual budget. Develop and maintain a five-year strategic plan for the development program updating it annually.
    • Prepare and submit quarterly reports to the Home's administration/Province and other reports as appropriate to the Collecting Little Sister. This includes preparation and presentation of department reports for lay-advisors and consultants associated with the Home. Job Type: Full-time Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 37.5 per week Benefits:
